While we are a non-profit organisation, and services to our beneficiaries are rendered free, we do need sponsors for some of our projects, for cultural programmes we put up for the elders, which provides them much enjoyment, and for organizing picnics and trips within the city and we look forward to support from our well wishers.
In the absence of a formal system in place to provide emotional care and support for senior citizens, it is important to build a community-based support system. UDHAVI aims to do this by pairing motivated volunteers with senior citizens in their neighborhoods who require companionship and support.
UDHAVI is always looking for additional volunteers of all age groups who are willing to spare a few hours a week to provide companionship, support and help for the elderly living in their area. We would like prospective volunteers to be able to set aside time for at least two to three visits per month, each visit typically taking about one and a half hours.

Above all, it is total commitment from the volunteers that we are looking for.
Some of the typical activities of volunteers would be:
New volunteers will be given a detailed induction after which they would accompany the senior volunteers on a few visits before they are ready to go on visits by themselves or with new recruits.
We take up small errands for them like helping them take a walk to the beach, to the temple, to concerts or an occasional movie. We accompany them on short shopping sprees. To those who are not tech savvy, we could explain how to use the mobile phone, how to use the computer, to browse the Net, and to use Skype for talking with their children who live abroad. We help the elders visit the bank; learn some of the functions which might be difficult for them to understand. In short we try to make life easier for the elders.
We don't charge any fees for our services.
